Logline:

A woman returns to her cursed village, where the ghost of her sacrificed dog rises, to protect her from the evil of her father’s dark legacy.

Synopsis:

When the low, distant sound of the dog conch began to hum, Xiao Ai felt the seal on her memory quietly loosen. Now a filmmaker and mother, she returned to her remote southern hometown with her husband and infant daughter. Time had worn the fishing village down to a damp, ghostly shell, but within it waited the buried remnants of her childhood—of love, violence, and a dog named Ah Fu. Years ago, Ah Fu was Xiao Ai’s only friend, a stray she secretly kept and loved. But her father, steeped in superstition and rage, sacrificed the dog in a dark ritual meant to change his fate. That night, the village was disturbed by unnatural signs—the sea god’s palanquin shook, dogs howled—and Ah Fu was gone. Haunted by a dream and stirred by a news report, Xiao Ai returned home. In her late mother’s diary, she unearthed the truth: her father’s ritual at the well was meant to forge a ghost. But that evil never left. When Xiao Ai burned the past to let go, her father’s ghost reemerged—this time mistaking her daughter for the child he once harmed. As he dragged the baby toward the well, the boundary between worlds cracked. From the depths, Ah Fu’s spirit rose—not for revenge, but to protect. The curse unraveled. Her father vanished. Later, in their new home, a ghostly figure of a dog appeared in the nursery camera—watchful, gentle. The conch echoed again, from far away. Xiao Ai whispered, “Thank you, Ah Fu.” A bond broken by violence had been healed by love.

Logline:

Haunted by a malignant spirit after his father’s mysterious death, a selectively mute boy must unravel the sinister evil before they consume his grieving mother and tear his world apart.

Synopsis:

On a remote island village, 12-year-old IMAN lost the ability to speak after he found his father’s body washed ashore, contorted and lifeless. Haunted by nightmares of a hunchbacked creature killing his father, his paranoia is fueled when he sees shadows of it in his waking hours. He believes his family to be cursed, although his gentle but emotionally withdrawn mother UMMI dismisses them as his imagination. To make matters worse, he faces the gossip of villagers who pin the village tragedies on Ummi, branding her a bringer of misfortune as no good has come since this foreigner married into the village.   Returning to his religious boarding school, Iman is bullied and struggles to fit in. He finds an unlikely friend in BUDI, the 23-year-old apprentice to the Tok Guru (headmaster) who empathizes with him. One night, Iman is attacked by visions of his mother in danger. Iman, accompanied by Budi, flees school and heads home, horrified to find his mother possessed. The village shaman, however, refutes any supernatural disturbances and simply diagnoses Ummi as a weak, grieving widow. But when mysterious events plague the village and Ummi grows weaker, Iman resolves to unravel the source of evil while the villagers conspire to oust Ummi by setting their home on fire. While taking refuge at the school, Iman is confronted by the shocking revelation that Ummi herself has become the hunchbacked creature of his nightmares. Iman is forced to confront a possessed Ummi alone, breaking his silence to defeat the evil spirit by chanting Quranic verses. Just as the spirit departs, it drags Ummi into the shadows of a sea cave. Iman clings onto her, refusing to let go. As both Ummi and Iman are dragged deep into the cave...  ...the horror suddenly fades into stillness. A confused Iman awakens in a modern hospital, into a waking nightmare. Ummi isn't a victim of a malignant spirit but she’s dying of cancer. Everything Iman experienced was a delusion constructed by his grief. A grief that had slowly driven Iman and Ummi apart. But when a forgotten voodoo charm resurfaces, Iman finally pieces together the truth from his delusion. A real evil had indeed been lurking all along, and it still wants Ummi.
