Love Nature Apac Expansion – Hunt for Cross Genre Prospects

Love Nature has grown its distribution significantly from its origins as an SVOD service, and a Canadian linear channel.

“We’re now a global wildlife and nature brand, available in 300 million+ households across 135+ countries,” said Carlyn Staudt, Global General Manager of Love Nature. Carlyn heads up Love Nature’s strategic direction and operations globally. In her prior roles, she was responsible for spearheading co-production partnerships and global acquisitions across a suite of channels.

To date, Love Nature’s global audience finds their content via multiple platforms. The brand now exists in a variety of formats that changes territory by territory; in some countries Love Nature is a linear channel, in others, a branded block, and in others still, on OTT platforms.

“We’re not committed to just our own branded platforms, but, have found creative ways to reach new audiences by bringing our shows to international content partners, and via emerging platforms in the FAST (recent U.S. launches include VIZIO & Samsung TV Plus) and AVOD space,” Carlyn elaborated. “This will continue to be a core part of our distribution strategy in 2021.”

Commissioning: One Way to Go About It

At present, Love Nature is focused on bringing together like-minded partners who want to expand their natural history and wildlife offering and help each other attain ambitious budgets to create quality content.

“By working with great content partners like Sky in the UK, we are able to commission blue chip content and exploit and monetize it globally. Since we are sharing the costs across many partners and revenue streams, we enable our partners to access compelling programming at investment levels far more modest than if they tried to commission on their own,” explained Carlyn.

“Last year, we announced a 5+ year content deal with Sky that has seen all of our original series and specials landing on Sky Nature (launched on April 7, 2020), which acts as the official home of our award winning content in the UK market. A year into the partnership, the deal has proven to be successful and it’s our hope that we can work together in other markets in the future.”
