Melissa Zhēn Zhū Riemer
Melissa Zhēn Zhū Riemer is a mixed-race Chinese and German writer holding dual citizenship in Australia (where she was born) and Canada (where she currently resides).
A dedicated screenwriter, Melissa was selected for the prestigious 2024 Pacific Screenwriting Scripted Series Lab, working under Showrunner Michael MacLennan. She has also contributed to the industry as a judge for the 2024 Vancouver Short Film Festival and the 2025 GEMfest Script Competition.
Melissa's goal is to create strong, dynamic female roles featuring Asian representation, weaving together authentic and fantastical elements. Her script "Cast Some Light" was a top finalist in the Landed Entertainment competition, and her short film "Salty," produced with an Australian arts grant, is currently in consideration for Tier 1 film festivals. She also wrote and produced "Toe the Line" for the Run'N'Gun 48 Hour film festival.
With production experience from acting roles on sets like The Flash, Riverdale, and iZombie, Melissa transitioned her love of script analysis firmly into writing. Previously a senior editor for Terroir magazine and a former fashion model, she is also an accomplished music producer and composer whose music has appeared in Netflix's (Spike Lee) She's Gotta Have It and secured various synchronization deals.
