Alan Wong
Alan Wong is a multi-disciplinary performing artist, filmmaker, and arts leader of Chinese heritage, born in Winnipeg. As a filmmaker, Alan strives to create honest, intelligent pieces that reveal something about society and the human experience. His first short doc, “A Dwarf’s Hideout”, won Best Canadian Short at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival, and his short surrealist comedy, “The Interrogation M.A.”, took home the Golden Boy Award from the ACTRA Manitoba MIP Showcase. Alan has produced numerous shorts films and has worked in various capacities on film sets - big and small. Alan is currently producing a short documentary about his 82-year-old father’s immigrant experience.
Besides creating his own independent work as a performer and filmmaker, he was a Producer’s Associate at Buffalo Gal Pictures, and Secretary of the Asian Heritage Society of Manitoba. He was the Executive Director of the Gimli International Film Festival and is currently the President of the FascinAsian Film Festival, an event that showcases the work of the Asian diaspora, building community in the cities of Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.
Alan holds a Bachelor of Music from Brandon University, and an Arts & Cultural Management Certificate from the University of Winnipeg. An experienced event coordinator, facilitator and producer, Alan has contributed to hundreds of successful events and projects in a wide variety of genres.
