Paramount Global: 2022’s Prep for Great Content to Come
In tandem with ViacomCBS’ rebranding to Paramount Global in a nod to the company’s historic moviemaking past, as well as its streaming future, Paramount+ announced its initial slate of six international scripted original series as part of the streamer’s plans to greenlight 50 new international scripted originals in 2022.
In a timely fashion, Paramount Global’s Senior Vice President and Head of Office & Streaming (Asia), Catherine Park, sat with K7 Media’s APAC Consultant. Victoria de Kerdrel, for ATF’s extended sessions on ATF Online+ to understand further its commissioning/buying plans, as well as its strategies in the APAC region on how the industry can work with Paramount Global in the months to come.
Victoria de Kerdrel, APAC Consultant at K7 Media, led an insightful session with Catherine Park, Senior Vice President, Head of Office & Streaming (Asia) of Paramount Global for the ATF Plugged-In Series 2022 (Drama)
Off the bat, Catherine noted that much of the current charge is making data-driven decisions for its SVOD arm, where the frontline market is Korea, before a rollout into the rest of the region. As well, more than mere acquisitions, there will be a greater focus on partnership models, bringing content to the market.
Catherine also mentioned that the various brands under Paramount Global will have their own mission, and timing, pending individual market strategies and focus to run with a truly 360 model.
A significant point to note was Catherine’s reminder that Korean content, locally, is sometimes better than those coming out of Hollywood, pinning this insight with a strong continuation of Paramount’s relationship with Korean media giant, CJ ENM. This long and mutually beneficial partnership will be extended, looking at the big picture.
Catherine also noted a focus on remakes of their IPs, as part of 2022 being a “prep year” for what Catherine promises Paramount to have a stunning line-up come 2023.
