Director/Producer
Nickson Fong
In 2013, Nickson won the Academy Award for Scientific and Technical Achievement Awards for his co-invention of 'Pose Space Deformation,' a technology that revolutionized CG Character Animation and was repeatedly used in most major Hollywood blockbuster movies internationally.
“Bashira” is an award-winning film and marks Nickson’s debut as a Director and Producer in live-action features. His lifelong passion for Japanese and Hollywood Horror/Supernatural films has been a driving force, aspiring to blend the two storytelling cultures into a unique mixed sub-genre.
In 2004, Nickson established Egg Story Studios (ESS) in Singapore, creating gateways to new partnership opportunities.
Recognizing the scarcity of trained animation and film talent in Singapore at the time, Nickson established EggStory Digital Arts School in 2007, merging production and education to provide practical, real-world training.
In 2011, Nickson served as the Visual Effects Supervisor and collaborated with the renowned Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu on his film “Control,” released in 2013. In 2014, Nickson expanded Egg Story Studios to Beijing and contributed to “Sunshine Robbers,” a black comedy action-adventure feature, and “Lost in the Indian Ocean,” an epic shipwreck disaster and romantic adventure. Nickson led the technology and research efforts in VR/AR, focusing on pre-visualization and photogrammetry using Real-time engines (such as Unreal Engine) for films and mixed-media projects.
Following his graduation from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1994, Nickson commenced his career as a CG artist at Future Pirates, a game development company in Tokyo, Japan in 1993. In 1996, Nickson joined DreamWorks SKG and was among the initial CG Animators involved in the early pre-production for Shrek, which received the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2001.
