Pantham Thongsang
Pantham Thongsang is a Thai producer and director of films and television series with over 20 years of experience. He possesses an excellent track record in both commercial and arthouse films and has worked as a managing director for a number of leading Thai film and television studios which have won both local and international acclaim.
His first success and directorial debut, Mid Road Gang (2006), features more than 10 dogs as main cast members with humans playing minor roles. The film won the Best Picture award from Giffoni International Film Festival in 2007 in Italy and has since been sold to more than 10 countries around the world.
Later, Pantham founded Tifa, a Thai boutique film studio focused on investing in international co-production projects. Tifa had a hand to play in Thai maestro Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s Tropical Malady, a co-production with France, Germany, and Italy. The film was awarded the Jury Prize at the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival.
In 2004, Tifa was awarded the Bioscope Film Magazine award for Most Promising Film Company. The magazine later crowned Pantham as Filmmaker of the Year in 2007.
Pantham crossed over to television in 2015 to produce and direct several television drama series for stations such as CH 3, Ch One HD, GMM 25, and True24.
In 2018, he set up GMM Studios International, a subsidiary of GMM Grammy focused on co-productions of television drama series for local and international broadcasters. As managing director, he oversaw the production of Netflix’s first original Thai series, The Stranded. He also produced and directed the series Sleepless Society, also distributed by Netflix.
In his new role as Country Lead at Warner Bros. Discovery, he hopes to usher in a bright expansion of the local industry and bring the very best of Thai storytelling to the world.
