ANALYST EXCLUSIVE: TRENDING ASIA, WINNING ANIMATION (ADULT)

It used to be common wisdom that love for animation fades during the primary-school years. Today, it’s a teenage favourite, driven primarily by anime and comedies. Dubit SVP of Media Insights Adam Woodgate will consider the key elements of success in reaching teens and young adults with animated content, drawing on his company’s global Trends surveys. What are the most popular and emerging genres and titles in various world regions? Where do these shows come from? Do adolescents engage in “nostalgia viewing” of shows they grew up with? Do teens watch mainstream animation with their families?

PRODUCING & DISTRIBUTING REMAKES IN THE OTT ERA

Facing the need to supply more and more original content to the many existing VOD platforms and services, film and series remakes have become a key product, often designed from the outset to be adapted to different countries.

In this discussion we’ll learn from the success stories of remakes in SEA and discuss with IP owners, distributors and producers: How to produce a successful remake that fits with local audience? Are remakes a safe bet for all parties involved? How has streaming transformed the approach to film and TV remakes?

ACQUI-MISSIONS—A NEW MODEL IN THE AGE OF CO-PROS

Many producers have figured out co-productions between themselves, but what about independent producers and production studios engineering co-productions between themselves and platforms/commissioners across territories and windows?

In this age of limited budgets and lessening upsides of ownership, commissioning budgets and appetites have severely dipped amongst buyers globally, so where and how do service producers go to cobble together budgets for their TV projects when traditional partners can't cross the finish line with them anymore?

This panel brings together studios, co-production impresarios, and commissioners, as they explore how the new reality of pre-acquisitions and co-commissioning have given producers more challenges in financing projects, but more leverage in levelling the playing field.

VISION FROM AN OTT OG: MONETIZATION OF KIDS' CONTENT

It is known that video monetization strategy for children’s content differs. Among barriers on the way to high revenues are restriction of targeted advertising, disabling features like notifications, and adding videos to the “watch later” playlist, etc. Today, many still feel that kids’ content cannot be monetized. A Parent Media Co. Inc.’s Daniel Riddell thinks otherwise. He sits with Dubit’s Adam Woodgate to address how kids’ content today, more than ever, can haul in the dough.
