Chai Yee Wei, Grand Prix winner of Short Shorts, an Academy Accredited Festival, with his short film "Benjamin's Last Day at Katong Swimming Complex” (2018), has a portfolio as diverse as his interests. His 5th and most recent Singaporean feature “Wonderland” 《樂園》(2024) is a hyper local family drama feature that won the Audience Award at San Diego Asian Film Festival, Local Jury Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and bagged both the Best Leading Actor and Best Supporting Actor awards at Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival. 

“Wonderland” also won “Most Anticipated Chinese Language Film” in the 36th Golden Rooster Chinese Film Festival He has co-written/produced/directed several feature films and high budget series across various genres ranging from serious drama (“Wonderland”), rom-com (“Venus on Mars”, “That Girl In Pinafore”) to horror (“Blood Ties, Twisted”). 

Since “That Girl in Pinafore”, which premiered in Shanghai International Film Festival, he has also acquired the experience of working on several studio OTT projects. He has directed several episodes of a Netflix produced series in Indonesia called “Mr Midnight”, and a 6-part Chinese series for CJ Entertainment ENMHK called “Venus on Mars”. 

He is also a tech enthusiast, and started Mocha Chai Laboratories, SE Asia’s first boutique digital film lab with a state-of-the-art Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos facility. Today he splits his time developing and producing content, while advocating the use of new technologies to tell better stories.
