Seung-jun is a multi-award-winning director and is the first-ever Korean documentary director nominated for an Oscar in 2020 for his short documentary “In the Absence”.
Since 1999, he has been directing numerous TV documentaries and documentary films. “Planet of Snail”, his second feature-length documentary, was the first Asian documentary that won Best Feature-length documentary at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) in 2011, and the film received numbers of awards at the film festivals around the globe.
Renowned as one of the best documentary directors in Asia, his recent filmography includes "Crossing Beyond" (2018), the Official Olympic Film for the 2018 Winter Olympics, "In the Absence" (2018, Grand Jury Award at DOC NYC 2018 & AFI Docs 2019, 92nd Academy Award Nominee for Shorts) and "Shadow Flowers" (2019) that won Best Korean Documentary Award at the DMZ Int'l Documentary Festival 2019.
